CPPA Woodsball Tourneys

The Ohio Christian Paintball Players Association, OK it's me but since I'm the Public Realtions Officer I'm dragging in the rest of the board help...

Anyway the Ohio CPPA is thinking about planing a small series of woodsball Tourneys and we have some ideas but would love to bounce them off you all and PLEA!! for suggustions.

This will be a 5 man format (was going to go 10 but more likley to get 4 buddys than 9, and if you can get 10 just field 2 teams)

Basic format will be centerflag with a twist.  10 min game time limit with a centerflag and four other smaller objectives.  One smaller objective within each teams "zone" 1/3 way to the center flag, Two of the smaller objectives in the "Neutral" Zone, Center 1/3 of the field.

Point values will be assigned to each objective with the smaller objectives in the team zones the least valuable with MAYBE a bonus for capturing all 4 minor objectives, so if you eliminate the other team so fast they don't have the chance to grab the minor objective in their own end of the field. The total of ALL other objectives will be less than first pull and hang of the center flag.  Most times you only get points for opposing players eliminated aka "Kills" do you think teams should get points for "Live" players at the hang?

The smaller objectives will be military style map bags or something like that with a bonus inside one of the 2 in the Neutral zone yours to keep reguardless the outcome of the game like a pod of paint.. pod with stickers in it.. coupon for free air fill at the field.. Cash.. I don't know yet.

The Finals will be detirmined by TOTAL POINTS so every objective counts and yes it could come down to "Had I not got shot in that third game we would be in the finals"

We want to start kinda small, maybe only 3 tourneys but each one at a different field.  I'm thinking....
-SplatterPark,  Sean at Splatter is a fellow CPPA member and a friend of mine so setting it up there will be very easy.
-Paintball Country, I think this is the name of the field you all played the Star Wars game at.  I freind and fellow CPPA memeber is a ref there so again communication is already established.
-Battlefront, Dave knows us and likes us, and during the Summer the Ohio CPPA Cooridnatior live 30 min. from Battlefront.

Dates will be Saturdays over the Summer since we are the CHRISTIAN Paintball Players Association we've got plans for Sundays.

Any other fields I should be looking at IN OHIO, I know there are great fields just on the other side of the boarders but we want to keep this in the state of Ohio.... This year.

OK that's all I have to say about that.... (Yes I'm having a Gump moment) Now it's your turn.  Suggustions and confirmations.  If you LIKE something say you like it if you DON'T like something say you DON'T like it AND WHY.  Any "I don't like ...." without a why is useless to me.

30 min games 10 min it's nothing but speed ball , Red Dragon field, Battle Front is way to far away, two flags, IMO Olddog

Where is Red Dragon?  Please remember we're staying Inside Ohio this year.  Yeah Battlefront is a HUGE haul for us but we also wanted to spread the games up over most of the state and not exclude one side of the state over the other.

30 min games would only permit for 12 games in a very well oiled 6 hour day most likley only 10 games (per field so if we run more than one field then....)  we're trying to make this a one day thing but we can adjust the time limit with the number of teams that show up.

Maybe insted of centrflag we can do capture the flag and you only get the points if your team hangs the opponets flag on your post first.

Reg Dragon is close to Cinci. Olddog
Bingo

I myself would think that if you hit the fields like BF and SP or Red Dragon and run the games for 10 mins. Then you will have a problem with the teams covering the field of play in a 10 min time limit. The fields would be to big if you use the whole field of play they have at each location.

Maybe a 30 min tiem limit would allow the use of the fields.

Just my 2 cents
BARKY

have u ever heard of rush paintball in dayton they have some pretty good fields

Ok Bingo and OldDog you both want half hour games for 5 on 5.  Help me out here just a little.  How can we get thru enough games to allow everyone to play?  Even Red Dragon has a 12min limit on their 5 man leauge games.

I'm not opposed to longer games but then we might have to do a blind draw kind of thing where there are 4 teams on the field at once you and another team aginst 2 other teams.  Again random draw and you don't have the same team twice as a teammate.  Then in the finals its just your squad vs. another 5 man squad. to pick the winners.  You would have to be a fairly strong team to get out of the prelims depending on the other teams to help you.

Just tossing out ideas... please keep the suggustions coming so I can finalize the rules.

Those are winter games limited veg. How large are the fields going to be? I suppose you could have 20min games that would give you a extra game per hour. Two or three fields. I just know what it takes to get everybody refilled for the next game. Even at your field players have to refill one per hour min, whats it take for them to walk up to the air, stand in line refill and walk back and pod up then get to the field and start this isn't speedball.   This is mostly a problem of logistics.  IMO Olddog

That is what I'd have to look into, I'm not even looking at The Land for this just becase of the small field.  I would love to be able to run no less than 2 courses and depending on the number of teams.  So during the prlims I would want each team to play no less than 4 games, each time starting from a different start point.  I could come up with this bracket wayyyyyyyyyyyyy in advance just assign numbers to the teams as they sign up then plug them in the brackets.

Bingo

It will also depend on how big of a field of play is going to be is the main concern. Is there going to be enough veg. as OD was saying. if not it kind of becomes a speedball match to me. (I see you run for cover fastest and move bunker to bunker) true woodsball to me, is there is veg. use it and plan to move through the woods with it as cover.

It is a winter game so it is just going to depend on the terrain to me. If it makes sense.... I know SPPL uses the woods type of field.
olddog

Your field you could do 10 min games. I know Red Dragon is playing on 4 acres for his winter games but he has a lot of man made cover on that side of the field, when he had lager games he add another 7 acres to it.  olddog

Well guys I would have to see the field available but I would want no less than 100-150 yards by 50-75 yards since it is a 5 man game I guess 200 yards by 100 yards max.  I'd like it to be that you can't see the other team at the start so inital movement stragities come into play but I also don't want the field so large people get lost on it either.

How big is the land? Olddog

Like we discussed this evening The Land's woodsball field is 55 of my paces from each start box to the edge of the "fort" and I just checked 24" for each of my paces is real close so 110 feet from box to fort times 2 PLUS 20 feet for the fort itself 240-250 feet total.
