Black Ops Armory Mk IV Tank “The Armadillo”
***PAINTBALL NEWS EXCLUSIVE***
On February 25th, 2006 at the MXS “El Imperio do la Luz Nueva” at Tactical Paintball in Harwood, Texas, the next generation of Paintball Assault Vehicle was officially unveiled by Jon Harris of Tactical Paintball and Armotech. The concept, created by Harris, has been in development for quite some time. Officially, it is the Black Ops Armory IV, dubbed the “Armadillo” is an eight-wheeled vehicle based on the Mowag Piranha IV modified for use on the paintball field. This is the first commercially built paintball vehicle that will be made available to public for sale. It will come in both a turn-key version as well as a kit.
This all-wheel drive vehicle has a zero-turn radius, drives like a tracked vehicle, and is hydraulically driven. It is designed for a driver, gunner, and a crew of 4. It can function as an assault vehicle, or as simply a troop transport. In the rear of the vehicle are 2 military-type benches that can accommodate 2 people apiece. Above these seats are pop up hatches that allow players to stand up through and shoot from should they choose to do so. For night play, there are 2 forward facing infrared cameras, as well as a rear-facing one as well. All 3 screens are in the cockpit for the driver to see. In addition are 2 forward-facing and 2 rear-facing halogen lights, as well as functioning tail lights. Included for safety is an exterior engine kill-switch that a nearby ref can pull when the tank is disabled or eliminated during game play. The tank is made more lightweight by its fiberglass exterior.
The best function of the Armadillo, however, is its limitless possibilities. While there will be a standard package, purchasers will have the options to purchase a cornucopia of bonus options. A few of these are turret ring, breech-loading nerf cannon, interior ammo racks for pods, on-board air for personal markers, Tippam A-5s for the turret, and a weapons mount…just to name a few. Sean Hircsh, the designer, is making final tweaks to the vehicle design but he plans for construction to begin on these machines very soon.
